May 30, 2018 marked the pinnacle of the Fintech Challenge Vietnam (FCV), the first-of-its-kind challenge held in Ha Noi, Viet Nam. 15 vetted finalists pitched their solutions after undergoing more than a month of fine-tuning. At the day’s end, winners were announced.  

Weezi Digital Corporation was selected Fintech Champion from Viet Nam, taking home a prize of US $25,000.

The first runner up was KIU Global from Viet Nam, with a prize of US $15,000.

The 2nd runner up, WeCash from China, was granted US $10,000.  

Three additional awards of US $5,000 were given out by the judges of the competition. The Most Innovative Fintech went to United States’s fintech, Tradle. Best Young Local Fintech was given to, and Most Inspirational Fintech went to Enablecode.  

The challenge placed focus on 5 areas of fintech: e-payment, e-KYC, P2P lending, Open API’s, and Blockchain. Prior to competition, selected fintechs worked with Vietnamese commercial banks for 6 weeks, utilizing sandbox testing to perfect their solution before making it available to consumers. In addition, some candidates also received support from Vietnamese startup programs Vietnam Silicon Valley and VIISA.   

The Fintech Vietnam Forum and the Final Pitch Day – Fintech Challenge Vietnam, a combined event set out to promote and catalyze financial inclusion in Viet Nam. The event was organized by the State Bank of Vietnam and the Mekong Business Initiative (a funded program by the Asian Development Bank and the Australian Government), with two co-organizers are the Vietnam Banks Association, Fintech Vietnam Club.  

FCV’s partners include seven commercial banks including BIDV, Vietcombank, VietinBank, Shinhan Bank, TP Bank, VIB and VPBank. FPT is a technical partner with the participation of two startup accelerators: Vietnam Silicon Valley and VIISA.
